Dinosaur and Volcano Cake Toppers

One great thing about a dinosaur birthday party is that the theme is enjoyed by a large age range. Kids from 4 to 12 are fascinated with dinosaurs, making this a great option where you have a mix of ages. Apart from the dinosaur party trimmings like decorations, plates and dinosaur balloons, we like to offer dinosaur-related activities that will get kids engaged while thrilling them with surprises. A dinosaur theme party offers lots of ways to get kids involved in the fossil action.

Consider taking kids on a fictitious dinosaur hunt or expedition. Arm them with temporary dinosaur tattoos and binoculars and go on the hunt for dinosaurs. The hike ends in a sandbox or other area where you’ve hidden dinosaur “eggs” or “fossils,” that kids can keep as prizes. You may bury things like large dinosaur “eggs” with a dinosaur figurine inside. Award the junior paleontologists for their awesome discoveries and hard work!

Most kids have a favorite type of dinosaur. Cookie decorating is a great indoor party activity so with a Dinosaur Cookie Cutter, you can create a variety of dinosaur shapes, letting kids pick their favorites to decorate and eat. You may also reserve some dinosaur cookies for goodie bags.

Kids also love watching dinosaurs grow with magically expanding dinosaur figures. Called Grow Your Own Dinosaurs, all you need is a tub of water. Have kids place the small dinosaurs in water and see them grow larger before their very eyes.

We have always loved pinatas and a dinosaur pinata like this

We adore birthday pinatas and think these colorful, swimming creatures would be great for an underwater, sea exploration theme birthday party.   Pinatas come hollow so you can fill them with whatever you wish. We suggest filling the pinata with treats like Swedish fish and individual-sized packages of Goldfish crackers.
Dolphin Birthday PinatasWhat about a Dolphin Pinata, a bright blue smiling fish that both kids and adults will love? Coordinate it with other blue decorations such as a blue punch and blue Jello snacks.    Enjoy the outside playing with a beachball. Consider having some beach-theme items such as plastic beach pails and tools as party favors.

Goldfish Birthday PinataThe Clown Fish Pinata also adds a splash of color to any underwater theme birthday party. It’s designed for parties up to 10 kids.  If you’d rather not have kids wacking the pinata (or eachother) with a baseball bat or broomstick, you can also pull a ribbon to release the booty.  We love the idea of buying several fish pinatas and hanging them at varying lengths from the ceiling, giving the impression of being inside of an aquarium.

This Killer Whale Pinata is actually very cute and sweet. Whale Pinata Decorate your table with bright green streamers representing seaweed. Store gifts in a “treasure chest,” which could be an old trunk you decorate with foil wrapped coins and seaweed streamers. Also, an aquarium makes a wonderful and educational birthday surprise for a child. Otherwise, these adorable underwater theme pinatas are the next best thing!

Birthday parties for kids age 3 and up often feature games.   There is a huge range of birthday party games, most of which are inexpensive to host and can be easily customized to an age group.

Some of the most popular games are word, memory and brain teaser games that can challenge kids to remember a long list of items they make as a group.

For more active, outdoor parties, games with balloons, relays, treasure hunts, or a beanbag toss can be lots of fun.

Finally, there are printable games that may involve matching, fill in the blanks (like Mad Libs) or printable bingo cards.  Bingo is perfect because you can use imagery for younger children and words and numbers for older children.

Check out this fantastic list, and of course, don’t forget the prizes!

This is one of our favorite types of birthday parties for kids.  There are so many options to take the birthday party, and make it an active, creative and unforgettable experience.  (even educational!)  They often involve less preparation on your part, allowing you to enjoy the birthday experience as well.   You may think of something like a bowling party or mini-golf, but experience-theme birthday parties are now at another level, high in energy and fun.

My punchbowl says:

“Some of the more active parties include paintball, laser tag, indoor skydiving, indoor karting, and feed the sharks experience. For the kid who likes to learn, there is the mad science party, mission space party, and even the candy factory party. Then for the creative kids, there’s the design your own clothes party, junior theater experience, and the rock & roll experience. “
